It doesn’t really sound that bad, but the clue is really in the titles. Intercept is the important word here, because it is referring to a system that will intercept all our electronic communication and store it in a central database. So all your emails, sms messages, web sites visited, pictures viewed and the fact that you watched the Kylie Agent Provocateur advert four times in a row one evening last March. Yes everything on a single database accessible by the approved government agencies which lets face it could be anyone.
Of course a database like this will be very popular, I mean who wouldn’t like to be able to put in a name and see what they’ve been doing online for the last 24 months. Of course the real reason it’s useful is to catch Terrorists and stuff, who they are hoping aren’t using encrypted channels, darknets and other communication channels.
Because if they are using these then, the database will simply be spying on innocent users like you and me. If this isn’t a case for using anonymous surfing techniques I’m not sure what would be. But the good news is the programme has been delayed due to the Credit Crunch!
